Record Fleet Set for 2025 Melges 15 West Coast Championship
MARINA DEL REY, CALIFORNIA - The spotlight shifts to the Pacific Ocean this weekend as the 2025 Melges 15 West Coast Championship heads to the California Yacht Club in Marina del Rey, CA, September 13–14. The Class is celebrating a record-breaking turnout for a West Coast event with 27 boats. The fleet is set to build on its success and showcase some of the most exciting one-design racing in the country.
This year’s Championship in Marina del Rey is shaping up to be the largest West Coast Class event to date, drawing a diverse mix of sailors from six states, including Colorado, Washington, and Arizona, plus Mexico. The growing reach of the class speaks to the boat’s appeal across different regions and sailing conditions, uniting seasoned competitors with newer owners eager to test themselves on the Pacific.
At the 2024 Championship hosted during Long Beach Race Week, the Melges 15 was the largest fleet of the regatta and was awarded Boat of the Week honors. Earlier this season, the Melges 15 fleet was also the largest class at Cal Race Week, further proving the design’s appeal in Southern California.
The California-based teams are also wrapping up their State Championship, a high-point regatta series, currently led by Brian MacLean and Bill Swezea out of Alamitos Bay Yacht Club. The seven-event series features venues up and down the coast from San Diego to San Francisco, and has been an integral part of fleet building for the region.
Racing runs Saturday, September 13, to Sunday, September 14. Follow the racing on Melges15.com and @melges15class on Instagram.
